Financial Planning in the Lake District
A Financial MasterPlan.
Built around your life.
Understand what your money could make possible, what needs attention now and how today’s choices affect tomorrow. Build your plan with James Curry in Cockermouth.
Make each decision with the whole picture in view
Important financial choices seldom stand alone. The age you stop working affects pension withdrawals; helping family changes what remains available to spend; an investment decision only has meaning when considered alongside the life it is intended to fund.
We start by mapping the life you want: more time with family, a change of pace at work or support for your children. Your priorities and timeframes shape the questions we ask before bringing income, spending, pensions, investments and estate considerations into your Financial MasterPlan.
Cashflow scenarios help you weigh the trade-offs, not predict the future. We can explore earlier retirement, downsizing or a market fall, using assumptions about spending, inflation, returns and tax. Our structured planning approach turns that discussion into priorities, with costs agreed before work begins.

What your plan covers
Financial planning that connects every part of your financial life
A considered plan looks beyond individual products. We examine the choices, risks and opportunities likely to influence your future, then draw them together in one clear Financial MasterPlan.
Income and expenditure
Understand what comes in, what goes out, and what needs to change to support the life you want.
Net worth and cashflow forecasting
Bring income, spending, assets and liabilities into a lifetime forecast, then test how different assumptions affect your options.
Pensions and retirement income
Connect pension decisions, drawdown planning and retirement timing into one coherent strategy.
Investment risk and evidence
Match your portfolio to your goals, risk capacity and time horizon using evidence-based investing.
Tax and estate considerations
Identify practical opportunities around allowances, inheritance tax, gifting and legacy planning.
Protection and contingency planning
Check whether your family, income and long-term plans are protected if life takes an unexpected turn.
Our process
How we work with you
Start with your goals, explore the possible paths and decide what to put into action. Your Financial MasterPlan, implementation and any ongoing support are priced separately; platform and fund charges are additional.
Getting to know you
Your life before your money
This meeting is at our cost. We explore your priorities, timeframes and what you are not willing to compromise on, before discussing pensions, ISAs or investments.
Financial MasterPlan
Your roadmap in writing
We test possible futures, such as retiring earlier or downsizing, then connect cashflow, pensions, investments and tax in a written plan with clear next steps.
Implementation
Putting the plan into action
We handle the paperwork and provider liaison, from setting up agreed accounts to arranging contributions, so your plan moves from theory to action.
Ongoing coaching
Keeping life and money aligned
If you choose ongoing support, agreed reviews revisit your cashflow, priorities and relevant tax changes, with coaching to keep decisions focused when markets feel unsettling.
For those with smaller portfolios, percentage fees can work out cheaper. If that applies in your case, you will have that option.
Why Lake District residents trust rockwealth
Financial planning should leave room for the things a spreadsheet cannot tell us. Meet James Curry, our Chartered Financial Planner, and talk through what is changing, what matters most and where you feel uncertain. Your complimentary discovery meeting can be at Victoria Hall in Cockermouth or online.
We combine those personal priorities with careful analysis and an evidence-based investment approach, not a claim to know where markets will go next. We explain how our advice is priced before you decide, so you can judge the planning and support against what you need.
Questions about building your Financial MasterPlan
What will my Financial MasterPlan help me decide?
Your plan is shaped around the choices in front of you rather than a standard report. It can explore when you may be able to retire, helping family or downsizing your home. We can test how a market fall or a change in spending could affect those choices and the resources you may need. Projections depend on assumptions about returns, inflation and tax rules; they are not a prediction or guarantee.
Will I know the cost before any planning work begins?
Our fees are agreed with you before any work begins and are normally fixed according to the service delivered. If a percentage charge would be cheaper for a smaller portfolio, we will explain that option. The first discovery meeting is on us. Your Financial MasterPlan starts at £2,000, implementation likewise from £2,000, and ongoing support from £3,750 a year, depending on how involved your circumstances are. Advice fees are separate from platform and underlying fund charges. See our adviser fee structure.
What information do you need from me?
Start with what you want to understand or change, whether that is funding education, taking a sabbatical or feeling more secure about retirement. We will also need details of income, spending, pensions, investments and borrowing. Everything does not need to be neatly organised before we meet; we will help you identify the information needed for your plan.
How long does creating a plan usually take?
For most clients, the journey from discovery to a completed plan takes several weeks. Timing depends on the availability of information and whether the work involves several pensions, business interests, estate considerations or more involved family circumstances. We set out the expected planning journey before any work begins.
Do I have to take ongoing advice after the plan?
No. Planning, implementation and ongoing advice are separate services. If you choose ongoing support, we agree the review schedule and how to raise changes between meetings. Reviews can revisit spending, family commitments, tax rules and the role of investments in your plan. Investment advice focuses on your portfolio; financial planning connects it to the wider life decisions your money needs to support.
